Finally....I know :)

Well we are getting back into the swing of things tomorrow and hopefully back into a regular routine. With all this crazy weather we have had it has been hard to get into our regular routine!

Here is what we are going to be doing this week!

In reading we are going to be starting a new book! The book is, "The Castle in the Attic." I am pretty excited to read this book with the students. This is a great fantasy book that will get the students excited! We took a little time building background information on knights and castles and we will be doing some more background information before reading it this week!
We will also be working on making inferences and then moving into non-fiction text features in the near future.

In writing we are starting our country reports! These reports are like the reports the students did on the states last year. They will begin by browsing through different countries and reading about them. Once they have chosen their country they will begin using different materials to do their research on their country. The students will be taking notes and then turning them into a "book like" report.

In math we are working on our measuring unit. Last week we worked on customary units of measure and how to convert and compare them. The students did very well with this! This week we will be working with the metric units and doing the same things we did with the customary units. We are looking to have the test Wednesday the following week.

In social studies we are starting our new unit of how the lives of the Native Americans changed when the Europeans arrived in the new world. The students will be making brochures and we will be reading non-fiction newspapers about the changes that came.

Here are the few pictures that I have from right before break.

Thank you to the parents who came in an helped out with our ice cream bar on the last day before winter break! I give them credit for being able to deal with all the stickiness!

Ok and I had to add a few pictures of the dogs, because honestly who doesn't love to see pictures of cute dogs! :)
